Speech Therapy or BUST

By eva - Posted on 30 August 2005

Our son is 3 1/2 years old and has been having difficulty with his speech. He is frustrated at school and often becomes physical when he really just wants to communicate with his friends. Because of a very perceptive preschool teacher I called our pediatrian and requested a speech evaluation through our insurance. The evaluation came back that he is in need of physical therapy, but Pacificare is denying coverage.

The pediatrian's nurse recommended that I call Child Find (we are in the TUSDi). Armed with my "initial oral-motor/feeding/speech evaluation" he had a brief screening which included a hearing and vision test. Soon he will receive a more in-depth speech evaluation and treatment recommendations. I was very impressed by the staff and the quality of the testing that he received. If he qualifies, he will receive speech therapy either on an out-patient basis or as part of his preschool. They provide transportation to and from the school and there is no cost to the students.

I started this process in June and expect to have physical therapy started sometime in September. This was only accomplished with a lot of determination and follow-up phone calls and appointments and rescheduled appointments.

Child Find can be reached at 520-232-8314
They conduct screenings and can help children with difficulties in the following areas:

personal-social skills
adaptive skills
fine motor skills
gross motor skills
speech/language skills
cognitive skills
